At Parkview Dentistry, we are often asked whether SureSmile or Invisalign is “better.” Both are well-established, clear aligner systems that can straighten teeth without traditional braces. The differences that matter most are not dramatic gaps in capability, but practical things like turnaround time, refinements, and how each system fits into our technology and cost structure.

Clinical Similarities

For the types of cases we treat with clear aligners, the two systems have a lot in common. Both use a series of custom-made plastic trays that gradually move your teeth. Both rely on digital treatment planning. Both use tooth-colored attachments when we need extra control over certain movements. Both can involve small elastic bands in selected cases and allow us to do light polishing between teeth to create space.

For mild to moderate crowding, cosmetic alignment, and adult relapse, both systems are capable tools when planned and monitored properly.

Speed, Fit, And Refinements

Where we see a difference is in how quickly treatment can start and how often refinements are needed.

With Invisalign, cases based on traditional impressions can take several weeks from the initial impression appointment to the arrival of trays. If impressions are rejected or need to be redone, that adds more time. Many patients also need one or more sets of additional aligners beyond the original plan to fine-tune the result.

SureSmile integrates directly with our MEDIT intraoral scanner. Once we scan your teeth, trays are often ready in a relatively short timeframe. When we place SureSmile trays, they tend to feel very snug and “snap” into position, and there is a small vibrating device available to help seat them fully. This strong fit contributes to good tracking and, based on our experience so far and the information we have, fewer refinements for many cases.

How Is SureSmile Different From Invisalign?

Patients also ask: How is SureSmile different from Invisalign? From our perspective, the key differences are:

  • Scanner requirements: Invisalign requires iTero scans or traditional impressions, while SureSmile accepts scans from our existing MEDIT intraoral scanner.

  • Lab fees: Invisalign’s lab fees are higher for comparable cases. SureSmiles are lower, which influences the final fee we charge.

  • Refinement pattern: Invisalign cases often involve multiple rounds of refinements. SureSmile cases, in our experience so far, more often finish with fewer extra aligner sets.

The software each company provides to dentists for planning also looks and feels different, but that is something we work with behind the scenes. What you notice are the number of appointments, how well the trays fit, how long treatment takes, and what it costs.

How We Decide What To Recommend

When you come to Parkview Dentistry, we start with a full evaluation of your teeth, gums, bone, and bite, and a conversation about your goals. We then decide whether clear aligners are appropriate and, if so, which system makes the most sense.

For many everyday adult aligner cases, SureSmile offers advantages in how quickly we can get started, how snugly the trays fit, how many refinements are needed, and what the overall fee looks like. Invisalign is also a strong system with long-standing name recognition.

Our priority is not the logo on the box but choosing the option that fits your mouth, your expectations, and your budget, while keeping all of your care centered at Parkview Dentistry.
